Especially on long journeys and when driving at night, this system can help prevent accidents by warning the driver if it detects signs of weariness and failing concentration. The system does this by monitoring and analysing the driver’s behaviour at road speeds between 80 and 180 km/h. If the driver’s steering pattern deviates from a previously determined profile, visual and audible warnings are emitted.

The integrated ADAPTIVE BRAKE system improves ride comfort and safety on the one hand using the basic function of the anti-lock braking system (ABS) to assist in critical braking manoeuvres, and on the other hand helping the driver in demanding driving situations by means of convenience functions.

These include the HOLD function which acts like a parking brake and can be activated by briefly depressing the brake pedal. The HOLD function then keeps the vehicle from rolling unintentionally when stopped at a light or in stop-and-go traffic. The hill-start assist prevents the vehicle from rolling back unexpectedly on inclines when changing from the brake to the gas pedal. The brake drying function ensures that full braking power is available even under wet conditions. And with the priming programme the system reduces the response time of the brakes.

Night View Assist Plus improves visibility under dark ambient conditions and if oncoming vehicles cause dazzling. A camera registers the road illuminated by an anti-dazzle infrared headlamp and transmits a grey-scale image to the multifunction display. This helps the driver to quickly recognize obstacles, insufficiently lit road users and the course of unlit roads. In addition to this, pedestrians can be perceived better thanks to the special pedestrian recognition function.

In addition to the Night View Assist the vehicle is equipped with a tinted and noise-insulating front windscreen which also reflects infrared light.
