The assistance systems of the new M-Class

Innovative assistance systems (optional) are at hand to help you master the challenges of everyday driving. They reduce stress and boost safety – whether you're driving in the dark, changing lanes, or on the motorway. Leaving you free to focus on the essentials.

Active Parking Assist (optional) The Active Parking Assist makes parking your vehicle easier. It automatically steers the M-Class into parking spaces while the driver need only operate the gas pedal and brake. The Active Parking Assist system automatically begins looking for parking spaces at speeds lower than 36 km/h. If the M-Class slows to under 30 km/h, the Active Parking Assist shows a "P" and an arrow in the instrument cluster display to indicate that it has found a parking space. The space needs only to be 1.2 metres longer than the vehicle – and the search is over. If the driver changes to reverse gear and confirms the parking selection shown, the Active Parking Assist completes the necessary steering wheel movements on its own. Drivers can however intervene at any point in the process and correct the parking manoeuvres according to their own wishes.
Active Lane Keeping Assist (optional)[1] The Active Lane Keeping Assist continuously analyses the lane markings on the road. If it detects that the vehicle is unintentionally drifting over a line or marking, an audible warning sounds. If the driver still does not react, the Active Lane Keeping Assist system can responds with an active braking intervention.
Active Blind Spot Assist (optional)[1] The Active Blind Spot Assist uses radar and monitors the blind spot areas to the left, right and rear of the vehicle. If a vehicle is detected within the monitored range, a warning symbol is displayed in the driver’s exterior mirror. Should the driver fail to notice it, an audible warning sounds. If he starts to change lane anyway, the ESP® system can intervene.
Speed Limit Assist[2] The system can identify the speed limits shown on road signs and display the permitted maximum speed in the instrument cluster. This is particularly useful on long, monotonous stretches of road with changing traffic signs or along routes with road works. Speed Limit Assist also aligns the displayed speed limits with the data stored in the navigation system.
Night View Assist Plus[3] Night View Assist Plus improves visibility under dark ambient conditions and if oncoming vehicles cause dazzling. A camera films the road illuminated by an anti-dazzle infrared headlamp and transmits a grey-scale image to the multifunction display. This helps the driver to more quickly and easily recognize obstacles, poorly lit road users and the road layout when there is oncoming traffic.
Reversing camera (optional) The rear-view camera offers convenience and added safety. Integrated in the boot lid, the camera transmits an image of the area behind the vehicle to the COMAND screen. The camera image not only makes parking easier but also aids in manoeuvring on difficult terrain.
